Overview

One of the oldest retrievers around, Curly-Coated Retriever dogs are of English origins is among the most popular dog breeds in New Zealand and Australia. They are not typically found in the United States, but they would make for great hunting companions around America. The Curly Coated Retriever is a noble gundog.

Activity

Curly Coated Retriever dogs are happiest out and about. They like to run around and explore new places. If you want to spend time with your dog, it may be best to do it outside where there is plenty of room to rough house or play fetch. They likely won't ever run away, as they are devoted to home.

Care

Keep a check on the eyes and ears of Curly Coated Retrievers to help keep them free of loose debris that may get caught in the hair and transferred. The coats of these dogs can be prone to damage, so be sure to check on their coats regularly as well. For anything else, consult a vet.

Character

Curly Coated Retrievers have quite the obvious name. Their coat is indeed curly. Their size is above average, and they have a buff muscular structure that may not stand out, but could be perceived in their movements. These dogs are fast and strong the two main reasons that they are such well achieved hunters.

Coat

Curly Coated Retrievers are not bad shedders, so they do not require a lot of brushing and combing. Brushing might be a bit difficult anyway with their thick and delicate curls. The color of the fur tends to be either a black or a liver type color, and it is always one solid color.

Temperament

The Curly Coated Retriever is calm and content breed. They know how to behave around company, and can treat other pets and smaller children with respect, so long as they are not hurt and made to feel threatened. They are naturally friendly to most, and they are not known for intimidating others.

Training

The Curly Coated Retriever breed is one that is sensitive to their owner's moods. They are very loving and affectionate dogs, especially if they are shown love and affection. They can be trusted with people from all age groups as they are caring enough to not intentionally cause harm to something that is not threatening them.
