Overview

Black Mouth Cur puppies originated in the Southern part of the United States and were initially developed as an all-purpose work dog that also contributed to the family. They have excellent hunting skills when it comes to bear, squirrel, boar, raccoon and mountain lion. In addition, they’re great herders for cattle and guard dogs. They make wonderful companions but they’re more dedicated to working.

Activity

The Black Mouth Cur puppies aren’t meant for city or apartment living. Since they’re a hunting and working breed, they need lots of physical and mental activity. They do best when living in the country with lots of room to roam around and a large fenced yard.

Care

Occasional brushing is required for the Black Mouth Cur puppies to minimize dead and loose hair. This should be done with a firm bristle brush. Bathe only as needed with a mild shampoo so their skin won’t get too dry. Regularly examine their ears to remove debris and excess hair. Clip their nails regularly. The good news is that they have no known health concerns.

Character

Black Mouth Cur puppies are well-balanced, muscular, courageous and tenacious. They’re made for speed, power and agility. This breed is sturdy, relentless and rugged, and excels at tracking, swimming, baying and treeing.

Coat

The Black Mouth Cur puppies coat is straight, short, fine and smooth. They shed little to none at all.

Temperament

Black Mouth Cur puppies are loyal, even-tempered and active. They thrive in homes with older children because of their tendency to herd. This breed does well with other dogs as along as the other dogs aren’t a toy breed. They shouldn’t be a part of homes with non-canine pets. Black Mouth Curs are very protective of their homes, families, and territories. They’ll fight to the death in defending those they love. They’re also particularly affectionate with women.

Training

Black Mouth Cur puppies are very intelligent as well as sensitive. Socialization and obedience training is recommended at an early age. Training cannot be conducted with heavy-handed or harsh techniques. Black Mouth Curs respond best to short sessions so they won’t get bored. Conduct training with respect, consistency and fairness.
