Overview

The English Cocker Spaniel is a sensitive breed. They're very willing to learn when they're handled with respect and gentleness. These dogs are entertaining and happy as well as being actively friendly to everyone.

Activity

English Cocker Spaniels need to be walked 3 times a day if you want them to stay happy. However, they also need to run freely on a regular basis. Most of these dogs really like to swim so if you have access to pool, lake or pond that would be even better.

Care

English Cocker Spaniels need to be groomed regularly with a comb and a brush because their coat tends to tangle easily. You need to take extra care with the hair on their ears and legs. They may need to be professionally groomed 2 to 4 times yearly so their hair can be trimmed or plucked. In addition, their ears must be regularly cleaned.

Character

English Cocker Spaniels are an intelligent breed. They're also easygoing, lively, affectionate and gentle. It's this type of character that makes them very popular with families that are looking for the perfect pet dog.

Coat

The coat of the English Cocker Spaniels is medium in length, smooth and silky. It shouldn't be curly. Their most common colors are orange roan, liver roan, blue roan, black, liver patches, tan and black, red, white and black, liver, or russet brown. The liver roan and liver patches may or may not have tan markings.

Temperament

English Cocker Spaniels are very friendly dogs. They get on well with other dogs, and family pets as well as children, which makes them a great family pet.

Training

English Cocker Spaniels have a willing nature when it comes to learning and understanding quickly what they're supposed to do. A lot of consistency and understanding during training is needed or they might try taking over your role.
