Overview

Miniature Pinschers are called “The King of the Toys” and with good reason. These dogs are very feisty and carry great amounts of energy, an amazing sense of humor, and are very brave. They're also quite eager to learn and experience new things. Keep in mind, though, that these energetic little dogs will escape when they get a chance so they need to be on a leash or in a safely enclosed area. They typically have erect ears and a docked tail. You'll fall in love with them.

Activity

Miniature Pinschers are very high energy and must have the proper amount of exercise. They do well with apartment living but they do need to be taken on short walks daily. They'll also want to play and romp about freely.

Care

Miniature Pinschers need much patience and energy on the part of their owner because of the spirited personality these little dogs possess. They are, however, quite low maintenance with regards to grooming. Simply wipe them down daily using a damp cloth to get rid of any excess hair. They're short haired and average shedders.

Character

Miniature Pinschers are playful, quite alert and extremely loyal. They need to be socialized at a very young age because they can be cautious with strangers. These high energy and peppy little dogs love being with their companions. If they're socialized properly, they'll do great with children as well as other pets.

Coat

The short hair of the Miniature Pinscher dogs doesn't need a lot of maintenance. You'll find coat colors of Chocolate, Rust, Solid Clear Red, Black and Rust, and Stag Red. Coat colors of Black and Rust and Stag Red are the most common.

Temperament

Miniature Pinscher dogs must have the right amount of exercise because they're very energetic and inquisitive. They do well in homes with well-behaved children and other pets as long as they've been socialized properly. These dogs are rather headstrong so they must have firm handling and consistency or they can become somewhat tyrannical.

Training

Toy breeds can typically be quite hard to housetrain and Miniature Pinschers aren't the exception to this. They can sometimes be quite stubborn so you must be consistent with training. They do have a great intelligence and are quite eager to please so properly train them and it will be successful.
